Repentless does possess a few standout moments but, whilst Slayer’s return is welcome, there’s little here to suggest they’re ready to push on and dazzle their fans with something mindblowing.

Repentless was never going to be Lulu, though the lack of surprises amongst diminishing returns is almost as bad.

While nothing on Repentless reaches similar heights of mayhem, overall the album is more focused and fierce than its predecessor, 2009’s Hanneman-assisted World Painted Blood.

It's their most vital, bloodthirsty offering since 2001's God Hates Us All, with furious guitar solos from Kerry King and guest Gary Holt.hange.

Repentless is a retro, workmanlike effort from a band determined to soldier on, and that's fine.

You Against You, which benefits from that unpredictable, bolted-together feel that all the craziest Slayer songs possess; and Implode, the first advance single released last year, and now re-recorded. The rest, unfortunately, lack spark.

That is all I can say. It is a very powerful, very agressive, and a very sweet set of tracks. Do yourself a favor and play it as loud as possible. I suggest buying the disc because it comes with a dvd of a live show and a documentary of the making of the album. Full Review »
