Here the irresistible tag masks some solid riff-heavy whoopee. [Dec 2014, p.107]

Ultimately, while Bass Drum of Death's reach never exceeds their grasp--there's no MC5-style ersatz free jazz, let alone a guitar solo to be found here--Rip This nonetheless grabs your ears like a drunken biker in a bar fight, letting go long enough for you to pick yourself off the floor just in time to get pummeled again.

Now that Barrett’s had a solid touring duo together for awhile, and they’ve got a couple albums under their studded leather belt, the duo (Len Clark on skins) has that feeling of an act at its third album phase: assured, strong, but teetering on a decision to leave its comfort zone or not.

Overall, BDoD’s fifth album tends to rehash the typical traits of rebellious guitar music, and while Barrett may not join the ranks of the titans he mimics, there’s no harm in letting another punk delinquent rattle on amid the din of the dull.

It must be said, [Rip This] lost some of the garage band magic that made [the debut] so memorable. [Dec 2014, p.71]

Rip This is a step forward, but it’s a small, staggered one.

Rip This is completely ignorable, and not a fun ambient music way.
