  1. Rockferry is a fantastic album of burning blue soul.
  2. That ice-queen intrigue adds a certain cachet to the 23-year-old's occasionally overstudied lyrics.

It all adds up to an impressive first step that ticks plenty of the right boxes, as does Duffy herself. [Apr 2008, p.100]
  4. Rockferry splits its time between paying tribute to its source material and knocking it off, but its principal's vocals, and generally pleasing wall-of-sound treatment, make it a good move anyway.
  5. There's nothing dislikable about Rockferry - but nothing that dazzles, either.
  6. Rockferry is a pretty nifty party trick of a record, but it's not enough to justify Duffy's Next Big Thing billing.
  7. Duffy's the Clay Aiken of nuevo "soul."

Had a few filler tracks been left out the album would have had a condensed sound that would have made it a highly laudable album. Stand out tracks like Stepping Stone, Fool for You and Warwick Avenue are phenomenal. Expand

She won 3 Brit Awards a Grammy Award as well as countless other wins and nomintations for this album, and rightly so. Somehow Duffy managed to release this record on a very tight budget and still went on to become the highest selling album in the UK the year it was released and was the 6th best selling in the world, and this success was through one thing, talent. She's not selling club music, rock music or any music that fits a 'popular' genre, she released music that yes, may have been 'old school' much like Amy Winehouse, but it was somehow her own, blue eyed soul at it's best, were as Amy's music was very dark rhythm and blues. This album will not only go down in Welsh history, it will go down in British music history, and, yes, possibly worldwide music history. A stunning album by a stunning artist. Collapse

Some songs are a little dull and they don't own the deepest feeling of an a angered-heartbreaking soulful voice. "Rockferry" would be a simple desert where you can find two or three oasis in it, but it continues being a desert. My congratulations for "Warwick Avenue", "Syrup&Honey", "Mercy" and specially "Distant Dreamer" (the best for the last) In simple words, just a little more of potency for the next time, Duffy. Expand
