As ever, you’re left marvelling at Parton’s ability to capitalise on her slick professionalism without ever compromising her huge heart and sparkling spirit.

Effervescent, exuberant, wry, but always appealing, ‘Run Rose Run’ displays Dolly’s evergreen storytelling prowess and is a vibrant and compelling body of work.

Perhaps cloaking her personal experiences in the guise of a fictional narrative allowed Parton to allude to her past in this fashion, but no matter the inspiration, these moments are the grace notes that help make Run, Rose, Run a satisfying listen on its own terms.

It's a pity Parton has retreated into much safer and predictable territory. [May 2022, p.86]

Run, Rose, Run is an impressive display of Parton’s songwriting and vocal mastery that nevertheless leaves one hoping she one day releases the classic late-era record she’s so clearly primed to make, should she choose.
  6. It all adds up to a thoroughly enjoyable listen that confirms what fans already know: even a middle-of-the-road Dolly Parton album has lashings of charm.

Run Rose Run is one of Dolly's most predictable and most filler record to date. The album's themes are relatable, yet sort-of bland. The threeRun Rose Run is one of Dolly's most predictable and most filler record to date. The album's themes are relatable, yet sort-of bland. The three collaborations were possibly the worst of Parton's career due to all singers sounding exactly the same! Not forgetting the legendary first three songs though, that's what makes the album listenable and exciting...for a moment. Full Review »
