I think jet really took a pounding after the disappointing SALES from there 2nd album "shine on," which wasn't a bad album. Not only do these songs lack the raw energy and passion of their first two albums, but also the musicianship. What happened to the drummer, listen to him on get born, he's amazing, exciting. He's just generic on this album. This album reeks of a band I think jet really took a pounding after the disappointing SALES from there 2nd album "shine on," which wasn't a bad album. Not only do these songs lack the raw energy and passion of their first two albums, but also the musicianship. What happened to the drummer, listen to him on get born, he's amazing, exciting. He's just generic on this album. This album reeks of a band who's lost their confidence, the single "she's a genius" sounds like a lame attempt to recapture the success of "are you gonna be my girl." It's almost as if the band known for imitating that classic rock sound are poorly imatating their own older selves. there are some positives "KIA," "Black hearts (on fire)" and "Seventeen" are worth listens. "Goodbye Hollywood" and "Walk" show potential but are overproduced. I'm not sure jet can rebound from this album, but I hope they can, because I'm a fan of rock n roll. Expand

A solid effort to approximate various rock genres from garage, indie, piano, even elements of disco. A bit risque but worth a good listen. 'Walk', 'She Holds a Grudge' are gems amidst an otherwise decent album with a medley for all tastes. Sadly the Japanese version has two songs that are more akin to the Jet balladry of Get Born fame and SHine On gravitas.

  1. Shaka Rock squanders the promise Jet showed on their previous work, and even if they soldier on and release another ten albums, this feels like the end of the road for them.
  2. By and large, Shaka Rock is an unmistakable and confident move toward respectability for Jet. But it does make you wonder why it's so rough for a band to be young, dumb and full of bad come-ons.
  3. They're back with another dull slog through the AC/DC catalog.
