May 7, 2014Her songs materialize in grand resonant spaces, with pealing guitars, piano chords haloed in reverb and drums that boom without aggression. Her voice whispers breathily, swells right up to the verge of tearfulness and then gracefully backs away, ever sympathetic and ever poised.

May 7, 2014Twenty-five years into her career, Sarah McLachlan does what she does and you’re either out or in when it comes to the Canadian songbird’s pleasant, gorgeously sung, but perhaps not always exciting, adult contemporary pop.

May 13, 2014In her hands, it sounds just fine, and if there aren’t as many catchy hooks to be found as on some of her previous offerings, the rewarding music to be found here is worth the listen for anyone willing to take the time to let the good feelings in.

May 7, 2014On "Surrender and Certainty" and "Song for My Father," which is surprisingly less saccharine than you might expect, it at least starts to feel like she's evolving as an artist. But those moments are few and far between on an album that feels longer than it is, which, I guess, is a desirable quality for what is basically glorified background music.
