The meticulously constructed cathedrals of guitar sounds on Siamese Dream--so clean and melodic, yet also heavy-make the album more comparable to A Night At The Opera or Boston than Nevermind or Vs.

The bonus CD makes it alarmingly clear that the Pumpkins could have assembled another cracking album from the Siamese Dream castoffs before embarking on the road to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995)...The new editions of Gish and Siamese Dream (especially Siamese Dream, which handily outclasses its companion release in all areas) are sumptuous reminders of the heights the group once attained back when it had everything to prove and nothing to lose.

Manages the not-at-all-easy feat of sounding remarkably undated and, well, timeless. [#39, p. 72]

These lovingly remastered and richly expanded editions of the Smashing Pumpkins 1991 debut Gish and 1993's mainstream breakthrough Siamese Dream soundly prove that the band's place in rock history is firmly cemented.

They were unadulterated shredders, too, as Capitol's extensive reissues of Siamese Dream (1993) and its predecessor, Gish (1991), remind us in bountiful fashion.

There is nary a pair of finer testaments to the purity of the original SP sound than the group's first two albums, both of which have been beautifully remastered and generously expanded [here].

Although this is a fantastic looking package, it really doesn't strike me as a particularly essential addition to the Smashing Pumpkins canon.

I do prefer it's follow up MCATIS which has a wider range of styles and the songs are more focused but overall this record is as close to flawless as you can get. The remastered version is worth getting, there is a very noticeable improvement in the sound when listened next to the original. I have always felt that while the quiet/loud dynamics worked in terms of song structures, the contrasts were too extreme from a mastering point of view and this has been fixed. The sound quality is amazing and the extra disc of material is great for the hardcore SP fans. If I'm to pick holes I think some of the songs are overly long and the production and mix don't allow you to hear the amazing intricacies of the guitar work on the record (the latter point has been addressed to a huge extend on the remastered version). Today, Cherub Rock and Disarm are up there with some of the best rock singles to have ever been released but the great thing about this record is the albums tracks are just as good and in some cases better. Luna, Geek USA, Mayonaise and Soma would all get on any of the great rock albums from the 90's. Expand

After fully exploring this package, I had no choice but to review it. This Deluxe Edition is getting my first and probably only 10. SiameseAfter fully exploring this package, I had no choice but to review it. This Deluxe Edition is getting my first and probably only 10. Siamese Dream DE is the DE that all should be based on. The original album touched up sounds better then ever. The second disc which features unreleased tracks, outtakes, mixes and demos, is the real attraction for the hardcore Pumpkins fan. Also included are the other things that CD's are required to have to sell, always welcome. A must have for all SP fans. 10/10. Expand
