While still carrying some folk elements, Signs of Light strays for more pop-ish music, which the band doesn't excel at. This deviation in style it doesn't ruin the album, it defiantly proves that The Head and The Heart is better off in making folk music.

Things work better when they balance the impulse to hulk things up with their natural traditionalist intimacy.

It’s perfectly passable, but everything that marked The Head and the Heart out as potentially exceptional has been buried.

The execution is inarguably impressive, but the Head and the Heart have made much better music with simpler technique, and Signs of Light is the sort of album that confirms a fan's worst fears about an indie act signing with a corporate label.
