Jul 16, 2018That Tanukichan have come up with an album that sounds original and true while bringing deep emotions along for the ride is truly something worth commending.
-
Jul 16, 2018The result is a thoroughly dazed album that conjures a daydream so immersive (if not always so idyllic), it precludes any intrusive thoughts. The instrumentation on Sundays feels sun-baked and toasty in its fuzzy beach towel of distortion.
-
Jul 16, 2018Sundays may not be a collection that will live long in the memory, but when it rises out of its spiritual funk there’s a glimpse of something sparkling in amongst the fuzz and breathy introspection. It’s certainly not a dog of an album. But perhaps it’s not as cute, or as diverting, as a Tanuki.
-
Jul 16, 2018"Sundays" is a great example of how her laid-back indie pop can work when she really leans into it. For most of the album, though, Tanukichan seems stuck between really relaxed and more pop-oriented, without quite finding a balance to make her songs compelling.
