Solar Bears never sound like they’re blatantly ripping anyone off, but there are too many echoes of other band’s sounds floating around in the mix to make it sound truly like something that is theirs and theirs alone.
  2. Apr 15, 2013
At times the duo are guilty of excessive portentousness, but there are just as many moments where their grandiose ambitions are convincingly realised.
  3. Uncut

[The] excellent follow-up [to its 2010 debut] finds John Kowalski and Rian Trench playing to their strengths with horizons newly broadened. [Jun 2013, p.79]

[Supermigration] fastens pillow-soft beats to steadfast bass lines in a variant of the motorik rhythm. [Jun 2013, p.89]

The Irish duo are joined by an unnamed vocalist on a couple of tracks, but the instrumentals are the best work here.
  6. Jul 11, 2013
Supermigration pulls its punches here and there, but the closer, "Rainbow Collision," lives up to its hippie-friendly title with an epic swell.
  7. Apr 15, 2013
Supermigration may lack some of the euphoric moments of their debut album but these have been supplanted by a more rewarding, substantial set of attributes.
  8. Apr 15, 2013
Most of the album feels too much like a work-in-progress.
  9. Apr 22, 2013
For all of John Kowalski and Rian Trench’s accomplished textures and impressive ’80s sci-fi sheen, it’s these [songs "Happiness Is A Warm Spacestation" and "A Sky Darkly"] simmering, slow burning heavyweights that give Supermigration the thunder it needs.
  10. The Wire
    Apr 24, 2013
Supermigration never quite brings these directions--Air, Lindstrom, Neu!--together though; instead of fermenting their own sound, Solar Bears end up falling into the space in between them. [May 2013, p.66]
  11. Even though Supermigration is constructed as a whole, it doesn’t always work best in one sitting.
  12. Apr 16, 2013
While the duo proves to have an able hand at constructing reflective, chilled-out, or pleasant vibes, the record's darker and more brooding auras come up a little short.
