   With members spanning the globe, Superorganism's self-titled debut garners a diverse sound which is a direct result of this distance. Filling the entire album are a variety of samples, not so saturated that it loses its listen-ability, but plentiful enough that your ear catches a new sound after each play-through.… Expand

   First thing I heard from this band was the highly eclectic and extraordinary Joe Goddard remix of Something For Your M.I.N.D, which in no wayFirst thing I heard from this band was the highly eclectic and extraordinary Joe Goddard remix of Something For Your M.I.N.D, which in no way prepared me for the much more laid back nature of these 10 tracks. Initially that left me a little disappointed, but that soon passed and before I knew it, this album was being played over and over again. The combination of distinctive vocal styles, often sampled and messed about with, together with the imaginative effects and laid back guitars are a charming concoction. They also miss no opportunities to throw another pleasing pop hook into the mix. In the end the whole is a delightful cocktail and already looks to be one of my picks for this year.… Expand

   A great way to start their careers, the album's funky and quirky sound is fresh considering we're stuck in a world of boring pop. The firstA great way to start their careers, the album's funky and quirky sound is fresh considering we're stuck in a world of boring pop. The first half of the album is without a doubt more stronger than the second half with the songs, The Prawn Song and Relax definitely being the weaker tracks on this LP, however the ending track, Night Time is well worth the wait of listening throughout this album. The song Nai's March to me at the moment is differing my opinion on whether I like it, or I love it, so a re-listen to that particular song may be needed.
   Overall, if you're looking for a fresh indie sound than look no further than Superorganism.

Optimistic and dreamy compositions with witty lyrics about modern realities will easily become cute and close in spirit listeners, especially young ones).
   ____ I wish everyone to feel the fresh breath of the Superorganism, which rightfully can be called the "opening of the year".… Expand

   Superorganism, the debut album from the eight-piece London/Maine upstarts, delivers some inspiring tracks, but lacks the consistency andSuperorganism, the debut album from the eight-piece London/Maine upstarts, delivers some inspiring tracks, but lacks the consistency and stylistic breadth to be truly considered great. A deeply engaging, psychedelic listening experience for the better parts, but unpleasant at it's admittedly less frequent lows. Starting off with a trio of previously-released singles ("It's All Good", "Everybody Wants To Be Famous", and "Nobody Cares"), ones hopes are raised for the rest of the album, with some strangely enjoyable production. Though the sound has been explored before by numerous difficult-to-classify indie bands, there is a unique twist present that makes the band have its unique appeal. "Reflections On The Screen", the first new material in the track-listing, certainly seems to deliver on this promise, although weaker than the album's opening. The song draws upon the style heard previously, but with a more pop-y structure and perhaps more inoffensive mixing. However, past this point, the narrowness of the group's stylistic repertoire begins to show. "SPRORGNSM" seems like it comes from a place of lacking faith in the lead vocalist Orono Noguchi's ability to carry the track, despite her vocals being its saving grace. "Something For Your M.I.N.D.", as the song which first brought Superorganism into the spotlight, is yet another solid track, but with the further context of the rest of the album, lacks the same punch it did at first listen. The three next tracks ("Nai's March", "The Prawn Song", "Relax") all lack the polish, and perhaps even underlying concept, to be a challenging and exciting listening experience. Rather, they all come off as abrasive. Ending with the song "Night Time" was a unexpected positive surprise, however, considering what came before. The track makes an enjoyable, laid-back finale to what was overall an incredibly solid start for the band. I greatly look forward to what polish and a more coherent concept could do for a clearly innovative group.… Expand
