It’s hard to know at first what to make of a record that take such a pronounced left turn after it’s seemingly established itself, but as in music as in more obviously narrative arts like television, some of the richest rewards can be found in those turns.

Luckily, the balance of ideas and effort that run throughout Surrender show a band back in top form after long spell off, perhaps the best of their decade plus existence.

They're the true inheritors of the psychic disconnect and crude abstraction that marks out those early Royal Trux albums: less Stones, more stoned. [Jan 2014, p.75]

Surrender to the Fantasy is a timely reminder that Elisa Ambrogio and Peter Nolan are a truly talented pair of musicians, making some of the best noise-rock you’re likely to find in either the US or on these shores.

With its more considered, balanced approach, Surrender to the Fantasy feels more like a complete album than Balf Quarry's collection of moments did. It may take a few more listens to surrender to its fever dreams, but it's well worth the effort.

More than any Markers record before it, the trio seem to be communicating deep within the subconscious, tapping into soul that's been hiding behind the noise for years.

The duo of Pete Nolan and Elisa Ambrogio are back with John Shaw (enlisted as permanent member) and holy flaming feedback does this album take off--simultaneously into deep space and murky waters.

Surrender to the Fantasy is undoubtedly good, but occasionally falls short of its potential.

Surrender To The Fantasy is a reminder that Magik Markers is sort of an absurdist band at heart, willing to moon their audience and then have an intellectual conversation about it.

On Magik Markers’ latest, Surrender to the Fantasy, the rough edges are further sanded down, the songs revealing interest in a diverse set of genre signposts.

The total scuzziness takes some getting used to, which might be why the strongest material is saved for the second half.

Magik Markers seemingly forget their own warnings and regain their former wily intransigence, ending the album with a threesome of songs that return them to sonically murky territory, as if suddenly realizing that in fact they’d been trying to uncover something in this murk rather than striving to bury themselves in it.

Fantasy would be far more appetizing as a photo-negative of itself, with a dearth of feedback and studio obfuscation and Ambrogio's poetry as front-and-center spoken word. [No. 105, p.57]

Surrender To The Fantasy showcases the latest stage yet of their oddly trad transformation, the unkempt electric savagery of their past domesticated to the point of extinction. [Nov 2013, p.56]
