Other Lives are clearly kindred spirits of The National, but there's not a single clunky or derivative note here. [Sep 2011, p.93]

A study in subtly, Tamer Animals proves that more of less isn't just memorable--it's damn near magical.

Even if the emotional intent often feels recycled from other records, Tamer Animals is a record that takes you places.

It's not that there is anything abrasive or unpleasant or wrong with these songs, it's just that they all feel cut from the same pattern.

Layers of strings and piano (the droney "Old Statues") or ghostly backing voices (the haunting "As I Lay My Head Down") are usually enough to keep Tamer Animals from feeling too domesticated.

The result is an album that manages to sound both elegant and organic, like classical music made by people living off the land.

Bar a few tracks that outstay their welcome, there is a lot to love about this album.

I decided to give this album a listen, simply because I knew the band had toured with Radiohead. I really liked the album initially, but as II decided to give this album a listen, simply because I knew the band had toured with Radiohead. I really liked the album initially, but as I listened again and again I began to lose myself in the ethereal soundscapes that Other Lives have created on this album. It is a simultaneously joyful and somber listening experience, and I love every minute of it. Comes highly recommended to those who like Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, or Fleet Foxes. It is a multi-layered, subtly hypnotizing masterpiece. Full Review »
