K7 is doing its best to keep the tradition alive, and Foals' contribution is a curatorial coupe des grace.
  2. Jul 2, 2012
It all adds up to an exhilarating and at times revelatory mash-up of wildly varied flavors, like a really excellent fruit salad.
  3. Yes, this is a mixtape of other people's tunes, like you've made in your bedroom dozens of times before. But it isn't nostalgia, it's very 2012.
  4. Under The Radar

Don't get caught up in the questionable missing abilities of the selectors. Focus instead on the crossing of genres and spanning of eras. [Aug/Sep 2012, p.124]

While maintaining a slick vibe embodying the sultry lowlights of an unsuspecting loft party, Foals' Tapes are nothing particularly groundbreaking--but sure as hell an intoxicating listen.
  6. Jul 5, 2012
A collection that is perfectly pitched between old and new with nothing too challenging. It hangs together very well for both a casual listen or as a soundtrack to a night out.
  7. Jul 2, 2012
It's a head-swirling selection of the swankiest electro, techno and house, plus silky soul from Blood Orange, geo-political pop from Condry Ziqubu and howlin' funk from Gospel Comforters.
  8. Jul 2, 2012
Congreave, has selected with more ambition than his curatorial Tapes predecessors.
  9. Jul 5, 2012
[This collection] is too varied to be streamlined into a single influence-- but at least it transcends the nostalgic idea with which it starts, making the idea of the band taking these ideas and running with them a pleasingly feasible one.
  10. Aug 7, 2012
Is it a fun, well-selected mix to throw on at a party and dance to? Yes. And, sometimes, that's enough.

Ultimately, though, he [Edwin Congreave] knew exactly what his audience would enjoy, and he delivered accordingly.
  12. Aug 7, 2012
Tapes is hampered by unimaginative mixing and a serious lull in proceedings at the halfway point.
  13. Jul 10, 2012
If you come to Foals from an exclusively indie rock perspective, this may blow your tiny mind. But if this is Foals' attempt to infiltrate clubland proper, it falls short.
