  1. This is a band for fans of Leonard Cohen, Scott Walker and Nick Cave who wondered where their next great love was coming from...it's already here.

This is an astonishingly good album, and the fact that it's a debut makes its stylistic and thematic consistency, as well as suave swagger, all the more to be recommended.

Anglo-Saxon sextet Sweet Sweet Lies dress nasty themes in sweet acoustic melodies and sharp suits. [Mar 2012, p.98]

Punch and snarl and sweetness and weakness adorn shining intelligence and sentimentality compromised by the bitterness of experience. The melodies are lilting then crashing then stabbing then bare and vulnerable. It's a great album, with great hooks and is as welcome as hot coffee on a cold hangover morning. Expand
