The professionalism behind these country-lite treatments keeps the band from sounding as relaxed and spontaneous as they apparently do live.
-
For all their individual talents and collective intentions, The Little Willies just don't measure up to the greats they invoke.
-
Overall, what I hear on this record is a bunch of good musicians all collectively holding themselves back, nobody wanting to screw up the sweet deal that is a Norah Jones affiliation with too much daring or grandstanding.
-
Blender[Has] a relaxed good humor and a genuine feel for the pulse of Western swing. [Apr 2006, p.114]

Q MagazinePleasant but unremarkable. [Apr 2006, p.116]

The New York Times"The Little Willies" is several notches above a living-room jam. It is rehearsed, flowing, expertly produced. But it is still an album that has been hanging around the house all day in its sweatpants. [6 Mar 2006]
