  • Summary: 'Runaway Found' marks the debut LP for the London (by way of New Zealand) rock outfit led by 19-year-old singer/guitarist Finn Andrews. Their epic sound has drawn the band comparisons to many of the usual suspects (Coldplay, Radiohead, the Verve).

Enigmatically beautiful, yet stinging with bitter cold. [#10, p.90]
  2. What elevates The Veils above pleasant distraction... is [Andrews'] extraordinary, chameleon-like voice. [Mar 2004, p.113]
  3. 'The Runaway Found' may have sounded great in 1996, but it also sounds great now, and by our reckoning it always will.
  4. Despite its maturity, melodic strength, and direct connection to what came before, Runaway Found can't fully distance itself from the suspicion that it might just be "eh" in the long run.
  5. If you like your heart soaked in red wine, and your records to sigh and sway, come hither.

There's a fine line between sounding passionate and overwrought, but [The Veils] find themselves on the proper side of that smudgy barrier--just. [Aug 2004, p.142]
  7. 40
All pomp and bluster, like Coldplay at their most bombastic. [Mar 2004, p.108]

In a music world where magazines will print the best ratings for the hottest acts, based solely on the fact that it will sell more copies, it feels astounding to know that The Veils will be the best kept secret for true music lover everywhere. With all of these references to Starsailor and Coldplay, I think an enigmatic band such as The Veils should be compared more to bands who have truly opend new ground for other acts. Take Afghan Wigs, The Philharmonic Orchestra and throw in a dash of The Velvet Underground...Ladies and Gentlemen...I give you The Veils. Expand

Not a single bad track. Andrews voice is fantastic. 'Lavina' is one of the best songs I've heard in a long while.
