"The Dreamer" is an purely country album - which is unique in th fifth-album Miller's career. On CD are included mostly cheesy song about nothing - but here there were also a place for solid compositions, such as rock "Out Of Love" or similar to the "Neon Bible" by Arcade Fire song "Sleepwalkin' ". Some of his warmest melodies.

The return-to-roots exercise that is The Dreamer isn't bad; it just seems unnecessary. This is a good album; on a song by song basis, I'd even venture to say it's great. But given what Miller has shown us in the past, this can't help but feel like second-rate.

What is undeniably true is that Miller has rediscovered the alt-country voice that earned him his fanbase back in the '90s.
