Finally someone with enough balls to come out of the closet and finally produce a new sound. The beats are still RJD2's unequaled sounds but he does add pop to it. Yea he's new to this so the songwriting is lacking a lot. But if you like listening to each album for what it is, this is an album worth checking out. And yet another Brilliant underground Hip-hop star producer who decides that he has enough talent to become a pop songster, turning his back to his previous work: Results: Uninspired songwriting, bad singing, and terribly boring pop songs. This album is dull at times, but overall its listenable... at least half the ablum is pretty fantastic actually, just these filler songs that seem out of place. honesly though, given the choice between rj singing and anyone else rapping, i'll take the singing 90% or rap is kak

It's not as bad as DJ Shadow's last one, but as we were expecting the level of Ghostwriter or Saliva this is quite a dissapointment

Don't read the reviews, listen to it. No one seems to quite understand it.

RJD2 is great, but this album is a dreadful re-hash of Beatles-like B-Sides. He should stick to producing and let others do the singing (and playing)

First reaction: "Okay, this is different." Second reaction: "I should just give it a chance and judge it on its own merits." Third reaction: "This album sucks."

This album is mediocre at best. On one hand, it's nice to hear him do something different from his previous records, but on the other hand it has to flow well. This style does not work for RJ, and that is very evident on this record. I listened to it several times thinking it would grow on me, but I have not yet had any desire for repeated listening.

Makes you wonder just who's doing this; with all the twists and churns of his plightier, more revably fonted past works, it just allows the new long-player to capitalize itself among the rest of us. It's soup. It's salad. But I don't like salad.

Being a fan of his previous two records, this album is a bit of a dissapointment. yea ok he pushes the boundries of hip hop and blah blah blah... but taking the songs for what they are, there really isn't much to be excited about.

Very enjoyable. Definitely takes a diversion from his typic hip-hop/electronic routes, and it pays off nicely.

The one-man result: breezy soul tracks with pop structures, chill vocals and a grab bag of flourishes recalling everything from McCartney to Prince.
  2. Two skills he has mastered in the past, mood and texture, make this record especially good.
  3. Some sleepy stuff hurts his cause, but his best songs... combine vivid, polished tracks with solid tunes that pack a sneaky emotional weight.
