Lil Baby and Durk’s new joint album, The Voice of the Heroes, is not quite a marquee work for either artist, though it is reliably consistent and casts them as a natural pair—near-ideal complements to one another in writing and execution.

The nearly hour-long running time drags somewhat, and some songs could have been left off the final cut. Still, The Voice of the Heroes is carried primarily by Durk and Baby's chemistry as they adapt to each other without either of them watering down their individualistic styles.

The project offers disposable fun bangers and somber explorations of their pain but doesn’t elevate or illuminate Baby or Durk. It hints at lofty ambitions: an attempt at a seminal artistic statement about their influence, and dually, a victory lap after their recent success.
