It's an album only an old pro could make and it's one of the best this ever-reliable singer has ever done.
  2. 75
He sticks with what works, but never sounds as if he's simply exploiting a formula.
  3. Jun 6, 2012
His label home may have changed, but his everyman approach to songwriting holds steady.
  4. 60
He doesn't sound like he's trying to chase after Nashville's contemporary norm, which is admirable. But his confidence often scans as complacency.

On the most recent Jackson's publication there have been included strictly country compositions, which has been shown in a pretty decent light. And although the songs are typical "about nothing" ones - somewhat subdued, suitable for dance ballads - you'll find album at high levels. This is mainly thanks to interesting arrangements of instruments: for ex.. lots of strings in the "Everything But The Wings" or banjo in a bit more exuberant "Dixie Highway" recorded with the participation of Zac Brown.
