Not really feeling it this time around. That's too bad because Alt-J's first record was sturdy and fairly solid sounding all together. I'm probably going to end up picking the record up anyway, but still a little bit disappointed.

After Gwil left, I had some serious concerns about where the band would go from here. Well it turns out those concerns were validated after hearing This Is All Yours. This album epitomizes a band who lacks any notion of creative energy but still felt the pressure to throw an album together because of label deadlines.

Unfortunately this is probably the beginning of the end for a band

Unfortunately this is probably the beginning of the end for a band that I thought had the potential to be pioneers of the industry. Instead, they let their one talented member leave and this bland, unenthusiastic effort is the lame result.

Sure I will admit there's a couple decent tracks, most notably the bonus track Lovely Day which sounds like it might have been made before Gwil's departure. Nonetheless, it might be the most disappointing record of the year.

Alt-J could come off as pretentiously obfuscating but for the overt playfulness within the experimental.

They’ve created the rare sort of album that manages to be both familiar and disorienting at the same time, an expansively cinematic experience that remains unpretentiously grounded.

The plethora of headphones-friendly tones frequently overshadow melodies that feel less than fully developed. [3 Oct 2014, p.69]
