The album is just so uniform in its beauty that tracks simply blend into one another.
-
Alternative PressEven in its darkest moments... [This Too] remains grounded in a beautiful humanity. [Mar 2007, p.136]
-
A strong album with some growing pains.
-
FilterAlmost everything about this album is fragile and beautiful. [#24, p.94]
-
Like Mum on a smaller scale, or a lightly medicated, loose-lipped Four Tet, his introspective songs sway hazily from image to metaphor, between yesterday's folk and tomorrow's digitalism.
-
Hirway's music is a little too gauzy for its own good, but there are enough hidden surprises... to keep you wide awake, and the album is so majestic that it remains with you like a cherished memory... even if it is a fuzzy memory.
-
SpinThink the Postal Service gone yoga or an un-self-conscious James Taylor gone minimal techno. [Feb 2007, p.85]
-
This is an album not entirely worthy of the patience it requires to be appreciated track by track.
-
UrbA rewarding, intimate listen. [Mar 2007, p.101]
-
Hirway intends for much grander experience, but his shortcomings, be it insecurity or fear, do not allow him to achieve that. Instead, we're left confused over just who Hirway is, and the real loss is the lack of intimacy between the artist and his audience.
-
Although This Too Will Pass is a very solid effort from a maturing artist, it seems to be missing some of the energy of previous releases.
