A solid album from the first track to the last. Also a record that wears its collaborative elements on its sleeve. The ways that fame as eluded this band have been well-documented; maybe they'll finally get their chance after all these years. In any case, check out this record. It's great to hear an album of warm gems only Buffalo Tom seem to make. It's quite appalling that there are so few reviews of this album. Definitely one of their best, right up there with Let Me Come Over. Gotta see this set of songs live soon.

Hello old friend. To hear Buffalo Tom coming out of the speakers again is to be transported back 15 years to the time I got my first denim jacket and Let Me Come Over. As fresh as ever, Three Easy Pieces sounds like they never left and my denim jacket is still stiff and dark blue.

Buffalo Tom always seemed to effortlessly write great rock songs, and this new CD is no exception. It may not be up there with their 2 best (Let Me Come Over and Sleepy Eyed) but it's a very welcome return. The title track is terrific.

This is definitely one of their best - right up there with "Sleepy Eyed" and "Let me come over" and much better than "Big Red Letter Day" and the patchy "Smitten." The guitars and drums sound crisp and the harmonies and lyrics are fanatstic.

Hard to beleive they sound so good after nine years. It is like they never went away.

I had reservations about them releasing an album after so much time away--you hate to see a band mess with their legacy by releasing half-hearted nostalgia albums--but this album is really, really good. Several of the songs are good enough to have been included on their Asides album. The highlight for me is "Bottom of the Rain." Gives me chills every time I hear the chorus.

Tremendous return to action for Buffalo Tom. Somehow they get back together and put out a record more complete than Bill Janovitz's solo work.

I bought the new album a couple of weeks ago and it never leaves out my stereo. Great album. I'll hope to see them live somedays.

  1. The melodies still rumble with elegance. The choruses are instantly unforgettable. And the band's original members--Maginnis, Bill Janovitz (guitar/vocals), and Chris Colbourn (bass/vocals) - remain intact and chillingly in synch.
  2. Neither too mature (i.e. boring), nor too desperately age-defying (i.e. embarrassing), Three Easy Pieces potently reenergizes older Tom trademarks as well as imprinting a few new ones.

Don’t fetch the gurney just yet. Seems Buffalo Tom still has a few good ones left in ’em.
