This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's lots of good things happening on this album, but what caps it off is the songwriting. Not only is it right on theme and original, it's also consistently great on all fifteen tracks. Burna has also noticeably ditched the Fela inspired samples after being called out for it in the past. This time, he's opted for an old but trusted formula, and with Longtime friend and ex Aristokrat partner featuring as a producer on some of the songs, Burna is able to summon back that old magic to cook a new potion. Nigerian beatsmith Telz is also a prominent part of this as he combines with renowned names like Timbaland and Jae5 to work on this album. The lyrics do so much justice to the theme, painting vivid pictures with words all through. At the end of this album, where Burna is both bragging and seeking protection from his environment while reaffirming connection to a divine power, all over a choir type beat, one thing is obvious, Burna Boyc can't miss, and he knows it. Not as politically concious as african giant, but burna boy evolves and brings a new direction to this album as he changes his flow over tingling afro beats and beautiful melodies, songs like level up shows alot of emotion and bank on it sees the artist brags in positive self confidence, in all, i believe this album tops his previos project. A strong 9/10

The production is at the same level of detail and quality that Burna Boy has maintained for most of his releases, but the songs flow in a cohesive, sometimes narrative fashion that offers a more direct emotional impact than some of his earlier work.

Twice as Tall advances Burna’s political vision, and is frankly less fun than the two recent projects that catapulted him to superstardom. But the world is less fun than it was a year ago, too. Society could use a hero, a godsend. Pairing rhythms that possess the hips with encouraging calls for Black unity and an infectious sense of self-reliance, Twice as Tall is Herculean.

The result is songs that are intricate but still tricky, in the way African rhythms can be, but there’s a comforting palm wine-y warmth – regardless of his almost perpetual fury or often tedious boasting, Twice as Tall is usually more urbane than urban. And crucially, the singer is totally in tune with what his fellow millennials expect from their music and their cultural experiences.
