  1. Melodic post-punk rarely sounds as beautiful, exciting, or emotionally connected as it does on Two Thousand.
  2. It’s hard to imagine The French Kicks making a great album, given their limited changes so far. That doesn’t change the fact that Two Thousand is a very good one.

An appealing album. [Sep 2006, p.214]
  4. So Two Thousand is rich in guitar-disco atmosphere and tone. But it's weirdly lacking in personality.
  5. Two Thousand is nothing if not well crafted; that it doesn't have more memorable moments is as frustrating as it is mystifying.
  6. For all the improved minutiae, French Kicks simply can't shed the "boring" tag.
  7. A sleepy stretch of mediocrity that unfolds with lackluster monotony, Two Thousand once again fails to live up to the potential suggested by their One Time Bells debut.

according to several "influential" reviews, being from new york and originating as a band in the late 90s seems to be a big problem. even if according to several "influential" reviews, being from new york and originating as a band in the late 90s seems to be a big problem. even if you don't like the album (which, by the way, is, in my opinion, stellar), you can't deny that these are incredibly talented and heartfelt musicians. it's a pity that the band is from the "wrong" time and place, as two thousand is a pretty damned timeless record not easily placed by geography or by genre. Not as good as "Trial of the Centuray," but that is a tough one to beat. Still, easily one of the absolute greatest records of the year. Many Not as good as "Trial of the Centuray," but that is a tough one to beat. Still, easily one of the absolute greatest records of the year. Many a memorable moment, and lots of instances where their sound is more full than I'm used to. A nice touch indeed. Contrary to what Pitchfork says, very much NOT boring. A great indie/pop record all in all. Much much different than anything else that is coming out of New York. I do not understand how this band gets lumped in with that sound, and how they are so underrated. It is beyond me. Expand

Another great effort from these underrated boys. Nick still croons like no other and the rest of the band delievers, as well. Another great effort from these underrated boys. If you were a fan of that, there's no reason not to get ahold of this one. Expand
