    Before there was the enigmatic melodramatic Father John Misty came the silent folk of J. Tillman. This record sees the emergence of rockier aspirations and harder guitars. It's an unoriginal but captivating listen that still doesn't match the vacancy of Cancer&delirium

    This certainly isn't an essential album by any means, and perhaps a retrospective of Tillman's previous five albums and EPs might have been a better introduction.
