Even if not everything on Velvet Changes works, it shows that Jones can do pure pop as well as experiments--or a mix of both, as on "Holiday Man"--and the album ends up being more promising than uneven.
  2. Under The Radar

The entire album is low-relief but texturally rich. [Mar-Apr 2013, p.98]
  3. Mar 13, 2013
The songs possess an entrancing power but lack a certain amount of dynamism, the kind of tonal shift or chord change that sets your hairs on end, which is the hallmark of great pop music.
  4. Uncut
    Mar 13, 2013
The murky results are sometimes frustrating. [Apr 2013, p.71]
