After the great EP Nina Cried Power I was kinda expecting more from this new album, it was okay.

An unfortunate muting of a seemingly talented songwriter & artist. It's not lacking overall because of bad songs or choice performances but because of how inert it really is. It doesn't try escape the confines of what he had mastered with his glorious self titled, no instead it attempts at varying successes to recreate it. With that said they are some truly special improvements in hereAn unfortunate muting of a seemingly talented songwriter & artist. It doesn't try escape the confines of what he had mastered with his glorious self titled, no instead it attempts at varying successes to recreate it. With that said they are some truly special improvements in here such as the disarming pain of "Shrike" or the infectious rhythm of "(almost)sweet music" proof of exactly what can happen when he lets go and doesn't push it. But those higlights are few and though tgey are other interesting moment's such as "dinner & diatribes"&"title track" Expand

At 14 tracks in roughly an hour, Wasteland, Baby! falls prey to the humdrum, all its power wrung dry.

Even though Hozier doesn’t bring anything immensely innovative to the album, Wasteland, Baby! is still a delightful experience that radiates with feeling.

It’s a lovely sound, but the songwriting veers more towards the serviceable than the inspired.
