In short, another first-rate album from a group that keep adding new facets without ignoring their past.

It is a little daunting at first approach, but stylistic breadth and dynamic shifts make up for the stark brutality of their sound.

Occasionally, the histrionics and faux-biblical warnings of this guitar-drum duo tread a fine Spinal Tap line, but they do its majestically they can only be admired. [Mar 2015, p.95]

Stevens and Vogel have been playing together for almost 22 years now, if you can believe that, and We Are Undone is a fine addition to their catalogue.

In its often inchoate roar, We Are Undone bears little resemblance to the laser-focus punk-blues of their earlier work. The songs just aren't as good. The most satisfying callback to Two Gallants' halcyon, mid-'00s prime comes in the album's second half.

For two guys that have been playing together for over 20 years, they manage to retain their band's sound on We Are Undone while also pushing it forward.

We Are Undone, masters the sinking feeling of sharing a sweaty car ride or claustrophobic interrogation room with the bad cop/existential mindfuck cop team of Marty Hart and Rust Cohle.
