mattgJan 29, 2006the arctic monkeys have produced a superb album but to say they are on par with oasis is a little premature! out of all the tunes 1 or 2 let it down but overall superb!

grahamdJan 31, 2006worthy of all hype, this album is brilliant from its first minute till its last.
-
-
MattJJan 30, 2006Anyone who says this is a bad album is entitled to their opinion, just its wrong!, 3 things that make this band great, lyrics, catchy riffs, and they maintain it live (i've seen em) an album that deserves the hype for a change
-
-
GavinCFeb 1, 2006I like it, and am pretty impressed at how much they seem to have polarised people, there are just as many scathing reviews as their are glowing ones on here.
-
-
DavidFeb 12, 2006Very good debut album...At last a young band bridges the gap between good old Rock and Roll and Hip Hop.A change had to come and there it is!!!
-
-
pAULGFeb 21, 2006This is proper reet gudd. Imagine a Yorkshire version of Mike Skinner playing guitar like Franz Ferdinand. Not life changing, but bloody good!
-
-
joePFeb 20, 2006decent, not spectacular

-
willOFeb 21, 2006Just proves that British rock keeps producing amazing albums. Alex Turner the leadman is fronting one of the greatest bands in the future. This album is totally amazing, and is a must have for sure!
-
-
NickJFeb 22, 2006The other users on this site don't know anything about rock... this is a great, energetic debut that gets better the more you listen to it. Fans of the Smiths and The Clash will love it. Although these guys don't need any more support, show the U.K. that all American aren't void of taste.
-
-
Zimbo74Feb 22, 2006Its a pretty good album not the saviour of music some people are making it out to be but good nonetheless.

-
TravisSFeb 6, 2006What kind of music do you like Rob R? I'm willing to bet that it's supremely gay. Bloc party and Arctic Monkeys are both really good bands. Anyway, this album solid throughout and doesn't disappoint. Worth the money.
-
-
davidFeb 6, 2006excellent guitar, catchy lyrics that relate to their audience and highly upbeat. great 1st album, but new oasis? if theyre stil around hitting number1 spot in 10years then i would agree, until then just credit them for a well rounded album.
-
-
douglasmFeb 9, 2006sublimely witty lyrics, catchy melodies. not exactly the instant classic the british media is claiming it to be, but it could be a lot worse. it is what it is: a promising debut from a promising band. the demos sounded better, but the songs are still top-notch.

NakulPApr 1, 2006A very good album. Not quite worth the NME hyperbole, but still very good. Sure beats all the other crap around at the moment, for example James Blunt, The Streets, Embrace, all rap (Kanye excepted).
-
-
OApr 12, 2006Not nearly the 5th best British Album ever (NME). But it's still bloody brilliant and much better than anything else that's come out this year.
-
-
samanthavApr 26, 2006this band is what music is about. there is alot more great music coming from them in the future. we should applaud they're amazing achievements

DTApr 29, 2006Not the ground breaking world beater it's hyped up to be, but it is a good Album with 5 or 6 strong tracks & a couple of poor ones.

HouseMay 22, 2006What would you get if Ray Davies had joined the Clash...Artic Monkeys? There EPs were smart and sharp and this, there first full length record is even better. Can't wait for their Sophmore effort. This one rocks and surprises and makes you laugh all the way through.

ILOVETHEARTICMONKEYSJan 25, 2007What the hell is wrong with everyone!!!!! Average mark 6.9!!!!!!!! You got it all wrong!!!!!! They combine INCREDIBLY powerful and imaginative lyrics with a raw and unparallelled beat to it. The're one of a kind and i'll recommend this album to anyone who has been blessed with the gift of a pair of ears that work.
-
-
MJPiscesMar 31, 2007WOW, I'm really shocked and frankly pissed at all of the people that gave them a bad rating. There's a ton of Indie/Rock bands in England, and maybe these guys aren't up to par with the rest but let me tell you...in America...the ARCTIC MONKEYS ROCK!! They are so much better then so many other musicians out there... you guys have bad taste!! Go listen to your Elton John!!
-
-
patrickMApr 14, 2007WOW!! who the hell gave this a bad rating??? These are the best lyrics that I have heard in a long time. The songs are right up there with the Arcade Fire, and the lyrics are as good as The Roots. This is the most accurate and amazingly non-emo depiction of the troubles of youth that I have ever heard.
-
-
TommyApr 16, 2007Not the greatest band since the Beatles, true, but they still got one hell of an album here! Situation's a little different where I am though.. Even now, one year after it came out, AM are (almost) never played on swedish radio. Whats positive is that with no hype-backlash, I can just sit back enjoy the killer songs instead!
-
-
ktApr 7, 2007These lads are the most talented and exciting band for years and tower over any other band out there. It's not particularly hard to see that, i therefore pity the fools below who do not appreciate fine music.
-
-
ChristopherDMay 15, 2007a true masterpiece. everything good about the strokes, franza ferdinand, the kinks, the who and more rolled into one record
-

-
-
men59Jul 6, 2007I love this. Bomb shit man. Sound never heard.
-
-
KateB.Sep 20, 2007An extremely good album indeed. I can see how his voice makes all the songs similar, but I also love the infectious melodies and witty lyrics. I also think it could wear thin very quickly though through more albums, and already has.
-
-
WillSep 25, 2007A genius debut album that takes all the best bits of British rock music. The guitar work and drumming it stunningly good, especially when you consider the young age of the group members. Alex Turner's poetic lyrics really make the songs though. This is one of the best indie/pop rock debuts since time began.
-
-
AlanB.Jan 6, 2008The best alternative rock album in ages....and the best debut since Oasis.

benedictbMay 30, 2009This is the album of the 21st century so far. every song is genius, a brilliantly relevant punk revival infused with dance and modern indie music. it takes from the past but never once looks back and everything is brilliantly modern. when im 50 this will have been my album, my generations album.
-

mikkaNov 27, 2006really like this album, one of the best of 2006
-
-
MaxBOct 19, 2006These songs are nice, pretty little morsels of raw, blunt but poppy rock n roll. The songs are fun, especially the single "I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor". But that song is about as good as they get, and towards the end they start to blend together.

-
-
PedroLJan 26, 2006Well... yes, they are really hyped by british media, but their record is still great. On 2005 we had Bloc Party and Hard-Fi as fantastic new bands (maybe Kaiser Chiefs also), now you can add Arctic Monkeys to that list.
-
-
JulianJJan 31, 2006Simply Brilliant. For a bunch of 19 year olds to bring this out as their first album is astonishing.
-
-
MarkJan 31, 2006Amazing music and lyrics, I reckon this is the revolution of Indie Rock of today.

NeilPFeb 13, 2006This is already sounding like one of the top albums of 2006, they have the genius of Franz Ferdinand and The Futureheads. Im feelin' a new british invasion.

-
-
AdamFFeb 17, 2006This is the album I always wanted to hear from many of the UK bands. Futureheads' energy, Bloc Party's riffs and Oasis' lyrics mixed into one.
-

PeterMFeb 21, 2006they roxxor almost as much as CYHSY
-
-
DSchultzFeb 21, 2006Far superior and more enjoyable than Franz Ferdinand...this is an album that deserves to be the best selling UK album. They have an amazing amount of talent and energy...and for being so young, one can only hope that this debut isn't the peak of their creative talent.
-
-
housebordersFeb 22, 2006i Love it!
-
-
RaulGFeb 23, 2006I dig the album....The hype these guys are getting is a lil bit much...decent album from a cool band....hardly the second coming of Christ however....

-
adamwFeb 24, 2006Brilliant, energetic and engaging album. Love the opener and a certain romance. Hard to find a poor track.
-
-
WerdBombFeb 26, 2006Solid and entertaining. But shades of a hollow core, it's too early to get too excited. Actually nothing really new, just a damn fine crystallization of the proclivities of past 5 years or so.
-
-
MattMFeb 27, 2006
-
-
JoshuaMcFeb 27, 2006It's funny when a really good album gets hated on for getting too much hype. The same thing happened to Clap Your Hands, and its really a shame because that was a great album. So is this, most listeners will have a hard time not enjoying the inventive lyrics and catchy tunes. Definetly worth a listen, if nothing else.

MartyMMar 16, 2006I have no idea why I love this CD. There is nothing new about the music nor are the lyrics in any way profound. But the thing is just compulsively listenable (not to mention dance-in-your- underwearable). Every track just reeks of good times.
-
-
joebApr 13, 2006catchy and cheeky with lyrics a lot of us can relate to. let me down with their belligerent and their typically "rock behaviour when they kicked their award around at a ceremony as thogh it meant nothing. guys, u have to be rock and roll before you act it. dont show yourself up!!
-
-
EzraMApr 17, 2006I guess you can see the jackasses here... In any case, it's a great drinking album, well made, with good spirit. Not great, but you remember the Royal Tenenbaums...

StephenSApr 21, 2006Well played catchy tunes. Nothing deep, but loads of fun. Would have fit nicely at one of my spring-time college keg parties. Cue this CD up for infectious good times!

ChubbyDApr 21, 2006As an old man who remembers the Buzzcocks and Undertones fondly, this was a wonderful blast of smoky air.
-
-
DeanRMay 11, 2006For a debut album, this is second to none. It combines enigmatic lyrics with classic guitar riffs and great changes in pace, tone and musical amalgamation. Quality album.
-
-
kkMay 19, 2006fucking brilliant. it puts any album to come out of america in the last 6 years to shame (bar jack whites efforts or Is This It). people want to put them down so muh as they dont want to beleive the hype but this album surpases expectations.
-
-
MonkeymanMay 19, 2006The best British debut album since The Stone Roses. Absolutely essential.
-
-
EthanJul 29, 2006This cd is awesome nothig more.
-
-
Rev.RikardAug 13, 2006This is just great kickin rock and roll. The album reminds me of Grand Funk Railroad (at GFRs best). The driving bass and rythm section accompaned by guitar work that is intense. This album will not allow you to relax. It has the power to shake us out of complacency and awaken the ear to a sound long missed.
-
-
BenBSep 18, 2006This is an honest try at something new that has a couple amazing songs (Mardy Bum, When The Sun Goes Down, that Dancefloor track)...it just becomes a little repetitive, more annoying, then just sucks. They aren't Oasis (better in fact)and have a completely different view than the Gallaghers (Oasis=depressed girls in Omaha, Arctic Monkeys=Liverpool club hoppers)
-
-
DudeGuyApr 23, 2007Amazing stuff Buy and enjoy and no they're not Franz Ferdinand (they suck!) they're much better screw hype! can't wait for the new album
-
-
RachelL.Jun 23, 2007This album is amazing Alex Turner's unique voice and clever lyrics combined with catchy hooks and melodies make for a fantastic album.
-
-
ScottMJul 16, 2007Did any of the people who gave this a bad review even listen to the freakin CD....I'm American and nothing from the US comes close to the music coming out of England...these kids are great...keep it up so I don't have to listen to the rap/pop/hip-hop crap from the US.

Aug 9, 2012All I can say is, "Where did it all go wrong?" Arctic Monkeys burst on to the scene here with some of the ballsiest, catchiest, most energetic rock music to come out of Britain's housing estates. This is the type of album you can attach memories to; the type of album that encourages repeated listening, and the type of album Arctic Monkeys haven't created in some time.
-
Jun 4, 2011An album full of infectious and compelling pop songs. Brilliant hooks and riffs, sophisticated drumming, clever lyrics and amazing composition. A complete and utter indie classic.
-
Mar 22, 2011
-
Aug 23, 2011I most say the Monkeys are a hard version of The Strokes far ahead stronger musical scores and a superior lyric. If you're into the inde/alternative genre or simply love The Strokes ( or anything related to them) try to see if they fit you. Because really, I think you will like them.
-
May 31, 2011What a fantastic album. Arctic Monkeys have a real talent. They combine great indie rock with far from subtle, yet genius lyrics by front man Alex Turner. Tunes such as "When the Sun Goes Down" and "I Bet That You Look Good on the Dance Floor" are my favourite, but I think the majority of the tracks on this album are very well worked to make a great album
Awards & Rankings
-
It’s exciting stuff, simple yet deadly effective.
-
Such is the depth and quality of Turner's songwriting, it plays like a best of.
-
It's not a totally perfect record, for which we should be thankful - remember what happened to The Stone Roses after they'd released their flawless debut? - but it is an excellent first album, and gives notice that Alex Turner is already one of this country's best lyricists.
