When It Was Now is a refreshing debut album by Australian indie pop band, Atlas Genius, that includes plenty of catchy hooks and groovy tunes and is filled with creativity and is not only fun to listen to, but also quite enjoyable. Yes, one or two songs may not be as good as the others, but the album is still pretty damn fine. I am looking forward to other and upcoming music by Atlas Genius.

This is a solid indie rock album that kept me interested throughout. The album contains plenty of hooks and enough synthesizer to keep me grooving through the night. Well done, boys!

Though the songs can come off as occasionally sterile (“On A Day” quickly comes to mind), it’s still a pretty impressive collection of songs from a band that’s only been around for a few years.

When It Was Now comes across like French soft-rockers Phoenix without the arty twists. [Jul 2013, p.99]

The performances are ahead of the songwriting at this early stage, but the loping "Trojans," the rip-roaring "Electric" and the Police-like "Centered On You" engagingly introduce Atlas Genius' genetically taut sound. [Mar 2013, p.67]
