Nearly perfect album by The Bevis Frond. Incredibly hook-laden songs like The Garden Feature, This One, Alta, More Chalk, It's Coming On and Opthalmic Microdots. Often with a ferocious punch, like Major Crime and Just Cause (Wins Wars). There's also impeccable balladry, in songs like She's Just Like You, White Numbers and The Likes Of us, and heavier epic rock tracks like The Hook, I'm TheNearly perfect album by The Bevis Frond. Not much to disappoint anyone here. Just a senseless show of force right through the album! I absolutely love it! Expand

A 40-minute guitar wig-out at the end of the immense White Numbers--filling two CDs or three LPs--will delight Bevis Frond fetishists, but the toytown pop of "More Chalk" and teary madrigal "She's Just Like You" better showcase the cottage industrialist's skills. [Jul 2013, p.71]

A two-hour 2-CD trip, hanging free in reflective well being. [Jul 2013, p.96]

Even the very best double albums--London Calling, The White Album, Tusk – have their lulls, but this record has too many.
