It's no secret that remix albums are often tricky affairs, especially when meshed with beloved rock songs. Luckily everything off Pony's dark twin is enjoyable, if not essential sounding. Overall, it’s a fun curio worth exploring and saving a few of its more ambient moments.

There are occasional flickers of inspiration - see the maximalist rework of ‘Elite’ from Blanck Mass and the minimalist ‘Teenager’ that Robert Smith contributed - but otherwise, you have to hope that everybody involved enjoyed putting Black Stallion together, because it ain’t much fun to listen to.

Tourist's 'Change' and Phantogram's 'Street Carp' were standout highlights for me, while electronic heavyweights Clams Casino and DJ Shadow did not deliver as I had hoped (Shadow's 'Digital Bath' sounded particularly phoned in). Robert Smith 'Teenager' was nice if not too distinguishable from the original. Purity Ring, Trevor Jackson, and Mike Shinoda came through with some solid efforts while the rest of the tracklist was ok but rather forgettable. Full Review »

An album that was released 20 years ago, but with remixes which is really nice, and it's cool to see Deftones trying to branch out to other artists for this venture. What is there to complain about? Unless you hate re-releases with different or more content, I see no problem with this album. Full Review »
