Perhaps the most artistic rap album I've yet heard. Of the albums listed on Metacritic, this is the one I've listened to most. milo's music abides in this mellow space that is incredibly easy to listen to, equally suited to drifting off, as it is able to stand tall under focused evaluation.

Perhaps the most artistic rap album I've yet heard. Of the albums listed on Metacritic, this is the one I've listened to most. milo's music abides in this mellow space that is incredibly easy to listen to, equally suited to drifting off, as it is able to stand tall under focused evaluation.

There's no getting around it, milo is unrivaled in his proficiency of language. The aphorism - fitting the whole world in a word, speaking it in a way it rings true in your core - is sometimes considered the most difficult art form, and there are few writers of any caliber that have honed the craft to contain so much meaning in so few words.

As a sample in one of his works says, "If you want to be a poet, you cant be; you have to know are one". In a field brimming with try-hard and wannabes, milo effortlessly exists. Pair it with Kenny Segal's meticulously melodic production, and you find two artists doing exactly what they were put on this earth to do. If there is such a thing as high art in rap, this is it.

This is the crux of the album’s difficulty: it feels personal and scans as though it should be, but time and time again, it leaves me not quite sure whether I know a single thing about milo, the person.

He brings a force with him that can't be found on any previous release of his, and if his brilliance hasn't swayed your take on him in the past, Who Told You To Think?! is an extremely attentive and translucent entry-point into the modern philosophies and ideals of one of the best emcees of this generation.

Milo’s still firmly making experimental hip-hop, bridging various through-lines of mind-expanding boom-bap, but he’s also etching his way toward the center, his art getting clearer with each step.
