Raise your hand if you expected Deep Purple would still be releasing new albums in the 2020’s. 3/5 of the (essentially) original members are still present, and Ritchie Blackmore & Jon Lord are here in spirit as well, as the instrumental track ‘And the Address’ originally appeared on the band’s debut album 52(!) years ago.

This is a very strong concept album, in which the band once again proves that age is not a hindrance to creativity. Next to hard rock there are prog songs like Step By Step, The Power Of The Moon, Man Alive. My Favorite Nothing At All and Throw My Bones.

It’s not as consistently good as Now What?! and it doesn’t contain inFinite’s peaks. Nonetheless, it’s classy, enjoyable, and it’s certainly commendable to see legendary musicians who have nothing to prove, feel the desire to express themselves artistically.

Whoosh! is musically superior to its immediate, Ezrin-produced predecessors, but it's more, too: If it's the last album Deep Purple release, it should be remembered as among their best.

It's certainly brave. Whoosh! is superior when guitarist Steve Morse and keyboard player Don Airey slip their leashes. [Sep 2020, p.85]
