Wish Hotel might be ephemeral but it's ultimately pleasing, a cloud of scented smoke floating from your speakers to score an overcast day.

As a bridge between that album and whatever comes next, Wish Hotel works perfectly, hinting at only the slightest changes to the formula, but with differences enough to keep things from getting stale.

Though these five songs trend closer to his earlier material, Wish Hotel makes it clear that Mondanile has become more adept at writing fully-formed, accessible songs.

Ducktails have been labeled ‘chillwave’ and ‘hypnagogic pop’ due to their naval-gazing appeal. Sadly that appeal is lacking from this release, as is any sense of urgency, leaving Wish Hotel languishing in the middle of nowhere.

Where every track on The Flower Lane felt essential to the whole product, most of the material here feels like warmed-up leftovers.

Sonically, it's all pretty enough, but the songs rely too much on goofy valentines and cliches. [No. 104, p.55]

Not a whole lot about Wish Hotel really points into a new direction or finds Mondanile straying too far from his comfort zone.
