An absolutely mind-bending (almost) 40 min that's unlike anything they've made up to this date.

This is one of the most consistently amazing albums I have listened to since Death Grip's breakout release, the Money Store. While that album was catchy and had awesome hip hop noise influenced noise instrumentals, this album just goes places that I didn't know Death Grips could go to. Black Paint is another favorite with it's roaring drums and guitars. Just an all around amazing album. Expand

This is honestly the best album by Death Grips since the Money Store. I love the direction they took this album. Challenging, loud, and insane

Continuing with their already phenomenal discography, Death Grips' latest record is their most experimental and cohesive work since The Money Store. Each song is perfect. Anthony Fantano sent me here.

It seems I'm being thrown a lot of noise but I can't make sense of this music. It's a mix of experimental, punk, and hip hop. Definitely not for everyone. The exclusive club who likes this though loves it.

Death Grips continues to make challenging music and by supporting the work of Charles Manson with calling their family betrayer the "snitch" they continue to ride the line of pop and experimental.

The most criminally underrated album in Death Grips's discography. A masterful fusion of electronica, rap, rock, and even jazz. The group's best album since Exmilitary.

Most of the time I do not know what the band is doing in this album or even with their career. The album is far from consistent and jarring.
Best Tracks: Death Grips Is Online, Shtshow, Streaky, Outro?... :|, Disappointed
Worst Tracks: Flies, Black Paint, Linda In Custody, Little Richard, Horn Interlude, Dilemma, Hahaha

Despite giving up, in some way, on their hip-hop side, Death Grips still don't dissapoint with their rock side. More abismal and weird than ever, MC RIde and his crew release one of their best efforts yet.

While it is a let down comparing to the rest of death grips's discography, it is still a pretty enjoyable digital hardcore record.

One of their best releases if still an acquired taste and also very much the expected hit and miss grab bag. Death Grips usually deliver one stone cold classic 'best song of the year' contender and this time is no different with 'Dilemma' being 'Snitch's clear standout.

'Year of The Snitch' is just another example of how consistent Death Grips discography has become over the decade. If 'Bottomless Pit' was the sequel to 'The Money Store', 'Year of The Snitch' would be the sequel to 'Government Plates'. However, this record is so much better than the electronic, repetitive nature of 'Government Plates'. If 'Bottomless Pit' was the sequel to 'The Money Store', 'Year of The Snitch' would be the sequel to 'Government Plates'. However, this record is so much better than the electronic, repetitive nature of 'Government Plates'. Instead, it relieves the repetitive nature with a revered-punk aesthetic packed with scratching and intense psychedelic soundscapes that fill the room. It is not just a great album, rather, an experience. Each track leads onto the next cohesively and has been crafted in a way that is not too polarizing for new-comers but experimental enough to fulfill those already fans of 'Death Grips' music.
My favorite track would have to be 'Linda's In Custody' as it is impressive to see the group leaving their comfort zone for something more chilled out and ultimately a completely hypnotic experience. My least favorite track, 'Little Richard' unfortunately impacted the overall experience as the distorted lyrics sound cheap and crackly. However, every other track was awesome to some extent with 'The Fear' being another highlight in the album.
'Year of The Snitch' is well deserving of a 9/10 and is sadly an underrated record that needs more attention.

Death Grips don't have a bad record, and YotS keeps this fire alive. They've gone for a more experimental rock approach on it and continue to keep the glitchy, unsettling aesthetic to their names. Black Paint and Death Grips is Online are very easily going to go down some of the groups best material. I enjoyed this album for the most part. I would say it is probably their heaviest and most experimental project yet. There was some noise influence, which I loved to hear on a DG album.

Tracks run the usual gamut, aggregating pop references and stylistic tropes from the entire history of hiphop, rock, punk, techno and their esoteric subgenres, and assembling them into a harrowing Frankenstein that’s more sardonic than revelatory. [Sep 2018, p.50]

There is a definite leaning towards a more straightforward form, which in this case arrives with the heavier implementation of rock music motifs. And that is also the main element that makes the album the band's most entertaining and fun release yet, albeit not its best.

Not one of their releases is the same as another, and with Year of the Snitch, they continue to break boundaries and expectations. The record is another example of true experimentation with their sound along with an uncompromising work ethic and a thirst for originality.
