This is garage band pop rock at its most basic with zero edges. Lots of energy but it is of the can of supermarket cola variety. A sugar buzz with zero flavour. Reminds of the comparatively trailblazing generica of the Pigeon Detectives of the mid 00's. There is nothing offensive and as radio friendly pop rock goes, its not the worst but I can't see any situation where I will be revisiting this.

The clearest example of how an indie-rock-wannabe-band must not be. This record explodes mediocrity, blandness and boredom. Circa Waves doesn't bring anything new and/or interesting to the table; their debut record is not even a bit enjoyable. 4.3/10

It's still unclear, for all the charm and enthusiasm, exactly what might mark them out, make them a cause, a rally call. For now, though, Young Chasers is just enough to keep them out in front. [Apr 2015, p.103]

The production sound is also very Strokes-esque, with Shudall's vocals often layered with a delicate haze of fuzzy EFX à la Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. That said, the comparison might be a bit more of a critique were it not for the sheer high quality and infectious nature of Circa Waves' songs.

How refreshing, fun and free it all sounds.
