Rise of the Tomb Raider will go down in history for being a Triple A game with production values worth of a TV series. Every good aspect of the game are the same ones that made Tomb Raider (2013) a superb game, and it is still as enjoyable as it was back then. It is a must if you like action and adventure games and you will like it even with the lack of new mechanics.

Even if you’re not going to end up staying for the story, at least the brutal combat itself will keep you satisfied for hours on end. Stay merciless, Lara.

This game has a beautiful setting, a pretty simple story, yet absolutely enough for what it is and does not need any more answers - except for the obvious question of what happens next in Lara's life and one, two major question that come with the end that surely is answered in the next game, but overall for the normal storyline it is fine as it is. I also liked that my assumption about a certain character was revealed to be true in the end.
The game plays very nicely, though I have the feeling the controls are a little bit less working than in the first game, the atmosphere the game has is just wonderful and Lara is simply "one kickass woman who rocks entirely". I was a bit worried at first that the most obvious natural setting would be shown almost all the time - the snowy one - but I was really glad when I noticed it was a mix. Great snow areas, sunny forest and lake area, a few ruins here and there, definitely superb.
However, it was a bit underwhelming that certain parts just reminded too much of moments that happened in the first game. I do not mind that much in general but this feeling definitely does not need to be this strong for part 3. Also a few battles were a bit frustrating when compared to the others but I can live with that.

All in all a great and recommendable game that was worth for me to wait 3-4 years.

I enjoyed the first one, 2013's Tomb Raider, immensely, and Rise of the Tomb Raider takes that structure and fleshes it out with incredible detail. The way you gather resources to upgrade weapons, the way you interact with the environment, the puzzles and exploration, all see significant improvement over the first one.

Graphically, the game is gorgeous. Environments are a delight to see and explore, and Lara herself looks amazing. There were many times playing the game where I was just stunned by how beautiful everything looks.

Story and gameplay-wise, Rise of the Tomb Raider doesn't disappoint. It's a thrill to play, and the play mechanics don't ever get in the way of your enjoyment. It doesn't quite capture the brutal, raw feeling that I loved so much about the first one, but I also appreciate that this one isn't just a rehash. It's its own game, and in spite of all the similarities with the first one, it feels very fresh.

Overall, I can't recommend this game highly enough. It's well worth your time and money to play.

ROTTR keeps a lot of the 2013 reboot's strengths, especially the fluid gameplay/combat. And again, the graphics are excellent. It doesn't push any boundaries though, and the overall feel is incredibly similar to TR 2013.

The story is the game's greatest weakness, quickly becoming stale and predictable. There isn't the same sense of mystery as we saw with TR 2013. I didn't feel much emotional connection to the plot or side characters either. And while Lara's voice-acting was pretty good, the overall dialogue and acting for the other NPCs is not great, especially compared to games like Uncharted 4.

I still feel like the game could do without the whole brutal finishers thing and whatnot. Fun as they are, it continues to ruin the consistency of Lara's character.

The upgrades have been expanded on, accompanied by a plethora of grindy collectibles. However, there's little practical reason to grind for these, as Lara quickly becomes powerful enough to take on all the enemies the game throws at her. And so, despite all the content added into the game, I feel like there isn't much incentive (for most gamers) to go back and finish it.

The best part of ROTTR is the challenge tombs. Although most of them lean on the short side, there are now a lot more of them compared to TR 2013. The rewards from these tombs are a mixed bag, but the experience of completing them is pretty much worth it by itself.

Overall, ROTTR is like Uncharted 4 with more open-world elements, a considerably inferior story, and worse dialogue. If you liked TR 2013, you'll enjoy this for sure, as it's very similar gameplay- and mechanics-wise.

I loved, the first reboot of the Tombraider (TR) series, however this one fell flat repeatedly. I feel the developers must have been force to implement the "open world" aspects of this game because of the success for Witcher 3. This game is complete $hi% compared to Witcher 3. Combat is few and far between if you don't directly follow the storyline. If you seek to complete all objectives you will be forced to follow extremely boring puzzles repeatedly. However, side quest are pretty much worthless because upgrades are pretty much worthless. I bought this game for 75% off and still feel ripped off. If you should accidently be forced to play this game. Focus one the story, don't bother with stealth and bring the best guns you can to each fight. All the BS that comes with it (you know the TOMB RAIDING) is pointless!!! Expand
