Legend of the Skyfish is an adventure game that's clearly influenced by some of the biggest names of the genre. While the game does a good job at presenting a simple gameplay that fits well with less experienced players, its lack of a higher challenge and lacklustre art style, as well as the inability to create its own space end up harming the game's prospects and make it a rather bland work.

If Legend of the Skyfish drops to its app price of $3.99 I’d have an easier time recommending it for its good-looking presentation and fishing pole approach to combat. But even then, my recommendation would be limited to those looking for a straightforward game and willing to tolerate the muffled music and repetition.

Legend of the Skyfish is a game with potential, but unclear direction. It lacks incentive, and its story feels like too small pieces of something more. There is some variety on offer between the islands, but a tedious drawn-out tutorial-esque start dampens the experience.

It’s a shame, because the game looks quite nice, and with tighter controls and a bit more thought into the puzzle design, it could have been a decent alternative to the Zelda games. As it is, it’s merely a poor imitation.

It's hard to stick with Legend of the Skyfish. Even clocking in at only around 2-3 hours for the 45 stages, it's easy to get bored with the game around the halfway point when it becomes clear that it has already shown all it has to offer and just repeats the same types of puzzles and gameplay. While it may have been more palatable on mobile three years ago compared with its competitors at the time, on Switch there are many better options for puzzle games, for Zelda clones, and even for Hookshot-centric style titles.
