Crystal Dynamics have effortlessly done the impossible with Rise of the Tomb Raider, crafting a sequel that is superior to their reboot in every single way possible. It’s a bigger, more expansive experience that has a captivating narrative, engrossing gameplay loops and an absolutely stunning presentation. Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the best action games ever crafted, and a generational leap forward as the series looks towards the horizon. Lara Croft is in good hands.

While 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot was great, fans of the series were pining for more tombs to explore and relics to collect. Crystal Dynamics addressed that and then some in Rise of the Tomb Raider, improving on its upgrade system, telling a fun story, more puzzles, and adding bears, tigers, cheetahs, and more packs of wolves to kill and skin. Just like we remember.

The last Lara Croft adventure comes with basic adjustments to its gameplay that make it an enjoyable and memorable experience. We loved the tombs, we loved the puzzles, we loved the exploration, we loved the world, we loved the combat. Even though not everything is completely perfect in Rise of The Tomb Raider, it’s a step in the right direction for the franchise.

The storytelling is not great in Rise of the Tomb Raider, but it does offer a lot more content, more tombs and varied fighting scenes in a very nice setting.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is exactly what the very title promises. Lara feels more grown-up and she finally returns to the key element of the whole series – tombs. In all respects, her new adventure is better than the previous episode, and it is obvious that Crystal Dynamics went in the right direction.

A crowd-pleasing game, which offers only glimpses of what could be if this team were only allowed to take some braver risks with Croft’s next expedition.

It's great. If you like anything like tomb raider, give this game a chance.

Likable characters, beautiful environments, immersive story, easy to pick up controls. I feel this game is very polished and deserves the praise compared to most games this year that were pushed out quickly with unstable release versions that had to be seriously patched up later.

If so, prepare to have a field day here. While Lara goes out to the Siberian mountains looking for the source of eternal life, she will face adversity in the most cinematographic way possible, with lots of explosions, land slides, risky jumps, difficult climbs, traps and shooting sequences against enemies and wild animals. Everything very well done and aggrandized by the beautiful environments and efficient characters and plot.
However, the game is not pyrotechnics from start to end, there's also some puzzles now and then to counterbalance to the action sequences and lots of optional explorations elements, being possible to return to previous scenarios to reach some spot not reachable before thanks to a new ability acquired. Among the stuff there's artifacts, chests containing weapons or part of them, recordings containing plot elements and even writings in russian or greek to improve Lara's language skills so she can decipher some clues to look for some itens; but the best extra are the hiding tombs, which are small dungeons with a puzzle, that once solved, allows Lara to reach some sort of altar to gain an extra ability.
It might sound good having so much to explore, but i think it ends being hard work to acquire all the stuff and particularly i didn't find that most of them are worth to get if you just want to reach the end of the story. It's not too important like getting a extra energy tank in Metroid for example. However, some people enjoy to collect all crap possible, so they may get pleased.
In conclusion, Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the best releases of 2015 in my opinion, much better than some called ''game of the year'' nominees like MGS V. Unfortunately, releasing it so close to Halo 5 and Fallout 4 was a bad move and it tends to be overlooked by lots of players.

Why can't I just buy the core game for $20?

What if after the core game, I am good, and don't need/want any additional content. What is the worth of the DLCs and others that I will not play? As a PS4 consumer, I don't have the option to just have the core game and decide later if I would like additional content. Why make it a bundle, just to justify the $60 price tag.
