Apr 23, 2018What I like most is the sense that these two musicians are beyond caring about perceptions, simply determined to have fun. 44/876 is a treat for grown-up fans of either artist.
-
Apr 23, 2018Sting’s still a fearless, fascinating lyricist, and Shaggy’s attractive persona remains one wink short of a leer. 44/876 may be no more exciting than a well-made sofa, but only psychopaths don’t like sofas.
-
Apr 20, 2018Shaggy and Sting might not first appear to be an ideal match, but they're both rooted in reggae and are both international stars, so they share a vernacular that helps turn 44/876 into a surprisingly enjoyable pan-international pop album.

MojoApr 18, 2018There's no high concept, just 12 pop songs that sound as if the pair decided to down tools the moment working ion them felt like work. [May 2018, p.90]
-
Q MagazineApr 18, 2018There are toe-curling moments. ... However, their voices are a convivial fit, most effectively on the gentle 22nd Street and the harsher, more restless Night Shift and both escape, dignity intact. [Jun 2018, p.114]
-
Apr 20, 2018With Sting's familiar bass sound driving most tracks, and Shaggy's production partner Sting International (no relation) providing bounce and clarity, 44/876 contains much of the sizzle of classic reggae or dancehall, though a little more substance would've been welcome too.
-
Apr 25, 20184/876 is as professional, good-natured, and helplessly uncool as its billing promises.
-
May 14, 201844/876 is like a hilarious fever dream somehow brought to life. Not entirely awful.
-
Apr 20, 2018Reefer madness perhaps sets in when they start quoting Lewis Carroll and, on Crooked Tree, act out a ghastly courtroom drama with Sting in the role of a drug dealer and human trafficker being sent down by Shaggy’s stern judge. But these two have enough innate songwriting ability to come up with a couple of gems nonetheless.
-
UncutApr 19, 2018The results has to be the blandest record in which either Sting or Shaggy has ever been involved. The lyrics are beyond banal. [Jun 2018, p.34]
-
Apr 18, 2018It batters through good taste, though its reggae-lite template is musically forgettable.
-
Apr 18, 2018It’s mildly funny and philosophically intriguing. Little else is in this team-up of exhausted pop forces.
-
Apr 20, 2018Mostly, 44/876 is just unremarkable, limply competent reggae lite, designed for Sandals resort lobbies and Sting’s office.
