Love the catchy production and Chance's flow but the content of his lyrics just doesn't really hit home with me. Still has a lot of highlights though.

Lots of praise for an extremely average project here from Chance the Rapper. Main critique is that his voice is extremely annoying. The album is certainly creative, but solely because it was done under the influence of acid and it shows; the songs themselves are at times annoying and for that, it's tough to think of rating this higher. It's far from perfect record--the guests are phoned in, the beats sometime out-cheese pre-breakdown Kanye at his cheesiest--but it has more than a few perfect moments. [Jul 2013, p.68]
  3. Amusing though he and his yelp can be, I like him best when anxiety is a mood rather than a subject.
