  • Summary: This debut full-length by the Norwegian singer is preceded by quite a bit of critical buzz on both sides of the Atlantic.

It excels at that classic pop trick of combining the euphoric with the melancholy. [Apr 2005, p.108]

Annie is to Kylie Minogue as Kasabian is to Primal Scream: same song, different packaging. [#16, p.97]
  3. As cunning as it is, Anniemal is also deeply affecting.
  4. Annie has a breathy wisp of a voice, and her vocal range is limited; but there is charm in her deadpan delivery, and her songwriting is full of the flair for melody for which Scandinavian pop is famous. [2 May 2005]
  5. Annie the songwriter is breathless and unsure of herself, her voice barely registering above a church-wafer-thin whisper for most of the record.
  6. What makes Anniemal such a strong pop effort is its refusal to drop its high standards for production, melody, and hooks.
  7. Anniemal is pleasant enough to listen to; when I played it in my car while I was stuck in traffic, it helped take the edge off. It reminded me of music heard in malls, peppy and buoying, but not so compelling as to distract you from the clothes.

The definitive pop album. A must-have for fans of any genre. One of very few albums to appeal to the indie kids, the ravers, the pop junkies, and everyone else for that matter. Earns a spot on my "top ten albums of all time" list without a doubt. Expand

Amazing, fun, energetic, upbeat and lovely. What more can you ask for in a pop album?

I love it! You can dance to it, drink to it, sleep to it, wake up to it. Annie is supercool and kind of sexy.

One of the best pop albums I've ever heard. Absolutely sincere, flowing with emotion and still almost instantly accessible. And Heartbeat is the most beautiful song this side of god knows what, I've just listened a million times... Expand

About solid as straight pop music gets. Some reviewers said that, even though most of us wouldn't like to admit it, this is pretty much like Brittney or the equivalent over here. I totally disagree. I'll admit that Brittney has made a few catchy songs, but she's never had an album as solid as this. Her production and lyrics usually just suck too much. This is great pop music that anyone can appreciate. Expand

Holy shit, art really is dead, isn't it? Buy the new Sleater-Kinney instead, for the love of Christ.
