  1. They’re perhaps a tad unoriginal - a hint of Felix here, a spot of 'Positive Education' there, a sniff of classic Sabres Of Paradise and some 'Stakker Humanoid' round the corner but hey, what’s wrong with nostalgia? Especially when it gets your hands in the air like you just don’t care.
  2. The fact is, Moby is still the best person to make records that sound like early Moby.

As self-indulgent side projects go, this could be a whole lot worse. [Apr 2004, p.139]
  4. It might be a better album if a tad self-edited, but overall it'll do for most Mobyites.

In the clubs, Baby Monkey will find a welcome family. [May 2004, p.87]
  6. Mojo

Has a strangely nostalgic feel. [Mar 2004, p.104]
  7. When he inches toward the current, Moby tips too close to listless trance. And when it sticks with the kind of choppy, anthemic techno he knows best, Baby Monkey sounds more like a nimble one-off than a meaningful return.
  8. Often sounds virtually identical to a generic dance record circa 1992.

These tracks lack the energy to power a glow stick. [Mar 2004, p.96]
  10. Entertainment Weekly
    50
    It's competent, if fairly faceless. [23/30 Jan 2004, p.99]
  11. Q Magazine
    40
Baby Monkey has nothing of the danger, adventure or indeed chemical frisson that defined rave culture--it's just smug sonic wallpaper. [Mar 2004, p.113]
