MojoDec 12, 2011Blissed-out analogue synths, the swell and drone of ambient rock and epic, beatless, drawn-out melodies characterize the debut. [Aug. 2011, p. 104]
-
Sep 6, 2011There's nothing blank, or bland for that matter, about it.
-
Q MagazineJul 28, 2011Safe to say, it's one reassuringly cosmic listening experience. [August 2011, p. 113]

Jun 30, 2011It's the comedown after Power's other lot are done with their sensory assault, a perfect after-hours accompaniment for contemplation and restoration.
-
Jun 30, 2011While it may not be as primal as Street Horrrsing, or as concise as Tarot Sport, Blanck Mass's self-titled debut packs the same sort of punch, and that punch is one that goes directly to the gut.
-
Jun 30, 2011Blanck Mass is all about Power excavating new domains while still working within that great glut of voluminous space he's already mapped out.
-
Jun 30, 2011While Power exhibits his range in mood and melody on this self-titled debut, one can't help but wonder how much the album could have benefited from even the smallest touch of the rhythms that give his other outfit its vibrant energy.
-
Jun 30, 2011The fact that it turned out quite well makes that fact that much more satisfying, and elevates the album above mere curiosity to a possible road sign pointing towards Fuck Buttons' future material.
-
Jun 30, 2011Listening to this album suggests a universe of unheard information beyond the reach of understanding and perception, of phenomena both too brief and too enormous for us to comprehend.
-
Jul 6, 2011While I don't understand a lot of the decisions made on this record, it is still undeniably an exhibition of some of the best sonic control and sound shaping around.
-
UncutJul 15, 2011Emeralds and Oneohtrix may do this kind of hypnotic synth drone stuff better, but Blanck Mass is still a fairly potent concoction. [Jul 2011, p.77]
-
Jun 30, 2011What it fundamentally lacks is the underlying rhythmic sensibility that adds an extra dimension to Fuck Buttons and gives them the scope to develop a track from simple beginnings to a euphoric, cacophonous conclusion. By stripping this ingredient away, Power is left with something that's often beautiful but also strangely static.
-
Jun 30, 2011Benjamin Power, on his first record as Blanck Mass, isn't really breaking their spacey, rushing mould, instead slowing it down and ironing out the thrills.
-
Jun 30, 2011Despite the promising influences and the strong pedigree, essentially all that Blanck Mass offers is a distorted, unusual take on new age music, and while interesting in small doses, it makes for a long, repetitive slog over the course of an hour.
