  1. This isn't up to The Fame or The Fame Monster. But both of those keep growing, and with its mad momentum and nutty thematics, this one could too--despite being laid down on tour trailed by 28 semis.

You have to admire the way Gaga fearlessly throws herself into, say, a disco mariachi arrangement on Americano, but she should be careful: her frequently righteous tone and overindulgence in clunky Catholic metaphors threaten to mire her memorable melodies in schlocky self-help proselytizing.

Born This Way feels like the first proper Lady Gaga album. [Aug. 2011, p. 114]

Beyond all else, perhaps, think of this zero as the massive bedazzled orifice out of which our heroine has spawned a new era of popular culture.

  1. My favorite album by Gaga! I love the different genres Gaga explores in this album, flaunting her musical diversity. There's not one song from the 17 tracks on this album that I DON'T like. Give it a listen, you won't regret it! Expand
  2. Was a very enjoyable album! all the songs are catchy but arn't very special or memorable, however all the singles are brilliant (Excluding marry the night) and throw gaga and pop into new territory especially the track you and i, The reason im so fond of gaga is she sounds very pop, but at the same time she is completely separated from artist such as rhianna and Katy perry.. her music just seems more real.

Overall the album is fun and compared to the pop around today the album is a saviour to pop music.

  3. While I certainly enjoy Gaga's music as a whole, this album didn't blow me out of the water as much as 2008's 'The Fame'. While 'Born This Way' may be one of my all time favorite songs, and most likely my favorite Gaga song to date, and 'Edge of Glory', and 'You and I' were also great hits, I really can't say that I enjoyed the rest of the album as much as I thought I would. 'Americano' and 'Judas' in particular I find puzzling. Not bad, just... puzzling. Gaga really has such an amazing talent, but sometimes I just find myself completely torn as to whether she's a very eclectic genius, or a very talented lunatic. Perhaps both. Either way, Born This Way is at large a great album. Gaga fans must have it, but anyone else might stick to picking the tracks off iTunes. Expand
  4. GAGA GAGA GAGA! I loved The Fame and for its fun dance beats and catchy hooks. Born This Way falls flat on both accounts sadly. I highly anticipated this album but upon listening several times, it falls flat. There's no sense of progression with this record. No sense of Lady Gaga. It almost feels impersonal. As if her only concern was upholding the facade that is her image. There is also a sense of trying to please everyone but in affect she falls short of pleasing anyone except her most loyal fans, those who can't see beyond the crazy that is her image. She's so adamant about making a statement that she's neglecting the true essence of the music. Tracks like Born This Way and Edge of Glory are catchy enough after a few spins but other songs Government Hooker and Marry the Night fall flat. There's no innovation here. Better luck next time.
