Breakers is a gorgeous oddity, one of the year's most arresting albums of any kind, and "252" hints at the potential for even better material ahead.
  2. 80
So many layers unfold to their sound that even upon repeated listens their whispered secrets still have fresh moments to uncover.
  3. Oct 12, 2011

As life seems to move at an ever-faster pace and information threatens to overload, Breakers offers an uneasy but welcome respite if we just take the time to listen.
  4. Pretty, moody, and even transcendently beautiful in places, Breakers' small-scale take on dream pop is a tempestuous and emotionally unhinged listen.
  5. 70

Breakers effectively conjures a space unto itself, but it's one that lacks an easy entry point.

Most often, Gem Club seems content to wallow in its pretty tones. Sometimes, that's enough.
