This album clearly shows a more mature Britney, separating herself from the bubblegum music (which we didn't might at all, as well). There's something so evolving about her tone in some of this tracks, not to mention the delivery of hits, once again.

A small step backwards from her previous album. Good tracks: Overprotected, I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet a Woman. The latter track sais it all, but i can't say she ever matured (became a woman) in her music. That's not to say her music is bad.

Aos 20 anos de idade, Britney retornou com esse incrível álbum, que mostra um amadurecimento no seu som. Com produção pop e urbana ele continua a trajetória de sucesso de Spears.

This album isn't Britney's best, but I wouldn't call it a total flop. With this album she was still finding her center in music and she was experimenting with musical styles. The songs on the album may seem dull and maybe even unnecessary at times but the best track is "That's Where You Take Me". It's 1998 Britney again :)

This album was my favourite when I was ten , though it is hard to listen to it the entire way through now that I am reaching my twenties , it is not as bad as this mark suggests. It has actually got a great songs only dampened by 'Im not a girl , not yet a woman' , 'Anticipating' and a shoddy cover of 'I Love Rock N Roll '

I seriously do not understand why this album is so underrated. I agree that it's not britney's best work, but at the same time this album accomplishes so many anthems, such as I'm A Slave 4 U, Overprotected and Lonely. And it's a mark for her career, because it really separates the Britney from her past two albums, from the Britney of the albums to come.

"Britney" was one of the best-selling albums of the 2000s for a reason. The album is pop perfection, spawned six singles and the era was iconic.

This album came out only a year and a few months after Britney‘s legendary sophomore album "Oops!...I Did It Again" (2000). It was a departure from Britney’s previous two albums. She was 19 at the time of its release and started to move away from her teen bubblegum pop sound and you could definitely hear this in this album. Britney was slowly becoming a woman. Britney started to experiment a bit with different genres on this album, while still maintaining pieces of her teen pop sound. Also the first time in her career, Britney co-wrote multiple songs on this album. 6 to be exact. The biggest shockers on this album must’ve been "I‘m a Slave 4 U" and "Boys" at the time. These two songs sound like nothing Britney had (and has) done. Both songs go more in an R&B and hip-hop direction. "Boys" even incorporates traces of funk music. Britney whispers, raps and moans her way through those two sexy songs. They are also both extremely danceable (every Britney fan can do the iconic "Slave" choreo). In my opinion, "I‘m a Slave 4 U" is definitely Britney's best song. It still sounds fresh and it’s so different, sexy and fun.
On "Lonely" and "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" Britney also experiments with rock music but gives it a danceable sound with hip-hop influences. "Anticipating" has a 70s disco sound and is a feel-good bop. On the mid-tempo songs "That's Where You Take Me", "Before the Goodbye" and "When I Found You", Britney plays with electronica music. The ballad "I Run Away" features strings and is one of Britney's best ballads of her entire career in my opinion. "What It’s Like to Be Me" is a fierce uptempo bop that you just can’t help but dance to. Of course, there are also some pure pop jams here that remind you of Britney’s first two albums. The masterpiece "Cinderella", the personal "Overprotected" and "Bombastic Love" all still maintain that iconic teen pop sound but still sound a lot more mature than the songs on Britney‘s previous two albums. This album has a few autobiographical moments. On the beautiful pop ballad "I‘m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" Britney talks about growing up. A very relatable song. "Overprotected" predicted Britney’s future as she sings about being tired of being manipulated and overprotected. Then there are some romantic ballads/mid-tempo songs like "When I Found You", which could be about her boyfriend at that time. "Britney" marks a very important moment in Britney‘s life and career. The album is a transition from her teen pop sound of her previous two albums to the mature sound that her next album "In the Zone" (2003) had. You can hear Britney become a woman in this album. "I‘m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" is really the best way to describe it. This record is fun, experimental and hasn’t aged a day. Favorites: I‘m a Slave 4 U, I Run Away, Cinderella, Overprotected & Lonely

It's not bad at all although she sounds forced to make the sexy sound. It's sexy, fun, and engaging. The only thing is that the singles who shall represent the whole album are bad choices. Boys (Co-Ed) was a bad choice, I would prefer Lonely to be released. I Love Rock N Roll is not bad but its not as good as her Satisfaction cover, and it is not single-worthy. Definitely not Britney's best album: as she says, she was not a girl, not yet a woman. She was still finding her style, en fact you can hear a more grown Britney in the lead single as well as the same sweet Britney of the previous two albums in "That's Where You Take Me".

A fantastic pop album that transitioned Britney from a sweet, teen pop star to an adult vixen. The dichotomy between these two personas and life eras are highlighted throughout the album, rendering it less than cohesive. Nevertheless, the overall record is extremely enjoyable and shows tremendous growth from her first two records.

    Stand-out tracks include: I'm A Slave 4 U,

There were so many potential hit singles on here, but the record label was really insistent on releasing the worst possible tracks (initial plan was to release filler "Bombastic Love" for the lead, and then subsequent moderately successful efforts included a push for "Boys" and the wholly unimpressive "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" cover).

With a touch of pop-rock in some songs, great lyrics, we see a Britney showing maturity, can be sexy and vuneravel and again betting on an excellent cover of rock. Highlight for "Overprotected", "I'm Not A Girl Not Yet A Woman", "Anticipating" and "Cinderella."

Used to be my least favourite Britney album, now my absolute favourite. I love this album so much, every song is amazing and works so well with the theme. It's a perfect sequel to the "Oops!.. I did it again" era. My favourites on this album include "I run away", "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman", "Before the goodbye", "I love rock n' roll" and many more.

Spears' sophomore album, which was critically one of her best, and featured the self-titled single that everyone and their mothers know. The album is headlined by such songs as Oops...I did it again, Stronger, and Lucky, with each one reaching the top 15 in the US Billboard 100 charts. Though those songs were popular, and I think they are catchy, the album does have its flaws. (I can't get no) Satisfaction is a word-for-word cover of the original Rolling Stones song, and it just comes off as awful personally. Also, the last track on the album, Dear Diary, is very, very stupid, in my opinion. Buy it to relive some nostalgia, but be aware this is the early 2000's, and bubblegum pop is just as cheesy as you thought it was. Collapse Expand

Britney Spears demostró tener sonido un poco futurista, aunque se noto la influencia de Justin Timberlake en su producción y ritmo, britney cambia drásticamente de una chica linda y dulce, a una más sensual.

It's enough of a reinvention to suggest that Britney will know what to do when the teen-pop phenomenon of 1999-2001 passes for good.
  2. While she's been guilty of gluing sure-fire singles together with rotten fillers on her previous two albums, Britney uses this opportunity to take the odd risk and adds a welcome edge to her sound.
  3. An unmitigated drag.
